Shaped from a downed apple tree in Oregon, this pepper mill has a story built right into the wood. First the wood is carefully dried, then cut into a rough form and left to cure for several months before it ever touches the lathe. When this piece was turned, a small natural void in the wood appeared; an unexpected detail that makes it truly unique. The void was filled and sealed by hand, giving the mill both strength and a beautiful mark of character you won’t find anywhere else.

The wood is spalted apple, which is prized for its intricate black lines and soft shifts in tone. Spalting happens naturally when certain fungi interact with the wood and create those amazing patterns over time. It’s nature’s artwork, and something that can’t be replicated or rushed. Every piece ends up with its own look and personality.
