This compact pepper mill is something of a conversation piece. The wood came from a downed tree that was carefully dried and cured before being turned on the lathe into its final form. The warm wood tones are complemented by the modern, flat-top design.
The intricate lines and shifting tones are what's known as "spalting." This happens naturally when fungi interact with the wood, creating dark tracings and subtle color variations over time. No two pieces ever turn out the same, which makes each pepper grinder completely one of a kind.
